Detox Therapies - Manual Lymphastic Drainage Massage - Aromatherapy Massage, Dry Body Brushing
We think about detox after the festive season or when our bodies aren’t feeling great, but what about the other times of the year? I mean, let’s face it, our body needs to perform well for us 100% of the time, not just on an overload. There are many things you can do for your body on a daily basis to get the most out of it. You’ve heard of the saying, ‘your body is your temple’, and therefore worshiping it and honouring its needs would be a good thing, right?
Detoxing from the inside out is a simple concept, but it always comes across as a bit of a preach. Drinking enough water will undoubtedly help, as it’s pure and sugar and caffeine free. In the UK, guidance is to drink 6-8 glasses of fluid per day (roughly 1.2 litres). We can get fluids from foods and drinks; not only water but also drinks like squash, fruit juice, soft drinks, milk) and tea and coffee. As alcohol is a diuretic, alcoholic drinks should not be considered as contributing to fluid intake and you must consider the sugar content in some liquids.
Eating an unprocessed diet will combat all sorts of diseases and keep your body clean and functioning well. What many people don’t realise is that anything that comes in a package, jar or bottle is processed or not whole i.e any ingredient that isn’t naturally grown. This includes bread, pasta, dairy spreads, most oils (not olive or coconut), jams, sauces etc. Sugar is one of the most poisonous processed foods we can eat, and it’s added to just about everything! Likewise, we don’t farm, grow and pick those preservatives, they are conjured up in a lab!
Finding a way to change habits and eliminate alcohol, sugar and processed foods can be very challenging, but assessing and reducing certain things from your diet will help you detox. Then, if you combine it with a therapy that focuses just on detoxing, you will receive a number of benefits.
Have you thought about how your body is detoxing? The skin, which is the largest organ of the body, holds part of your lymphatic system, which works hard to help you look and feel great, but it needs a helping hand because it doesn’t have a circulatory system, and at certain times of year, our energy levels are low, and it can be hard to get motivated with exercise, one of the ways to stimulate lymph, as well as deep breathing.
A Lymphatic Drainage Massage focuses on the lymph system in the subcutaneous layer of the skin, which is just below the surface of the skin. The technique doesn’t use oil. It is slow, gentle, flowing, rhythmic and very relaxing. It facilitates the removal of metabolic waste, excess water, toxins, bacteria, large protein molecules and foreign substances from tissue via the initial lymph vessels and venous capillaries. The release of all these toxins and congestion provides a powerful cleanse giving your whole immune system a boost!
An Aromatherapy Massage is also an excellent way to stimulate the body on many levels, not just the lymph. The traditional massage techniques will give a sluggish body the helping hand it needs to release pollutants, impurities and toxins. Boost the body’s natural detox process with an aromatherapy detox oil to help soften, nourish and hydrate your skin. And not forgetting the aroma to reach you on a deeper level.
Dry Body Brushing is a favourite of mine. I love the energetic feeling of the brush on my skin. The brushing is superficial, so it stimulates the lymph perfectly, and the brushing helps unclog the pores and help remove dead skin, leaving the skin radiant and free to receive the new growth of cells. This treatment includes a sweeping massage using an aromatherapy detox oil, giving you that lovely nurturing, holistic feeling of completeness.
If your body isn’t feeling its best, if your energy levels aren’t quite right, if you’re struggling to shrug off a virus or cold, if you have a new illness/disease or chronic/long term illness then you might like to consider whether you’re going to give yourself the helping hand it needs from yourself or detox therapy from me!
