So what is there to know about a facial? The face is cleansed, scrubbed, masked, massaged, toned, moisturised, right? Absolutely! Everyone knows that! But what do we really need to know about facials?

Going back to basics it starts with the type of products that you use. Many products have synthetic chemicals that are toxic to our skin, our bodies and the environment, so it makes sense to say that the more natural the products the better you will look and feel.

So that’s the basics over, now let’s look at what the benefits of having a facial actually are. The first process of cleansing removes makeup, oil, and surface dirt, preparing the skin for a deeper cleanse. Then moving onto the facial scrub, which will lift dull and stressed skin. Scrubs will slough away dull surface skin cells and cleanse deep into pores to lift the dirt, which then enables the pores to close and look smaller. It is the large dirty pores that give skin an aged look. I have always been a big advocate of exfoliation, not just on the face, but all over the body, and this facial scrubbing process is arguably the most important. However, the facial is like a long chemical equation and you need all elements to achieve great results.

The mask element of the facial can do one of two things. It can either drench the skin with nutrients or detoxify, resurface and restructure the skin’s layers. It depends on the type of mask used, but both will stimulate the skin’s energy and cellular production, increase skin tone, elasticity and luminosity, and energise and reduce the signs of ageing.

So, you wouldn’t want to miss out the mask!

Then the sequence moves into the facial massage, which 100% of clients tell me they absolutely love! The massage is extremely therapeutic and relaxing, and so helps ease away the stresses and strains that we hold in our faces. There are so many benefits to facial massage that I would worry that I might bore you. However, the benefits are numerous and incredible and it would be wrong to withhold.

These benefits are:

  • Improves skin suppleness
  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production
  • Reduces and releases muscle tension in the face and jaw
  • Reduces expression lines and wrinkles
  • Tones and tightens the skin and muscles
  • Stimulates rejuvenation of cellular activity
  • Aids lymphatic circulation and drainage, thus increasing the supply of nutrients to the cells and decreasing puffiness
  • Aids removal of dead skin cells
  • Improves and reduces acne
  • Relieves stress symptoms such as insomnia, headaches and eye strain
  • Enhances mental and physical relaxation…

Finally, we finish with a toner to wipe away excess oil and rebalance the skin ready for eye elixir and anti-ageing moisturiser leaving you with a complexion that looks and feels amazing!

Now you really know all about a facial. And if you have one with me you will be receiving a truly high calibre professional facial that is hard to beat!
